Stephen Musings

Not on my merit but by His Grace,

Tribute to the Viewers and Commenters

With immense pleasure and a heart filled with gratitude, I post my 100th musing. When I began blogging in October 2020, I never imagined reaching this milestone. It has been a journey that has kept me engaged and allowed me to be creative and reflective.

The idea started with converting a farewell speech I delivered at Berchmans Institute of Management in June 2020, where I served full-time for six years, thus completing 40 years on the S.B. College campus as a faculty of Commerce, Vice Principal, Principal, and Director of the MBA program

Dr. Gigy Joseph, a former faculty member of the English Department, encouraged and supported me to venture into blogging. My younger daughter, who had a blog on Instagram, prompted me, and my son, an IT professional, helped with the initial setup—purchasing the website domain and managing the technical aspects of hosting the blogs. Currently, I manage everything on my own, including the graphics.

Let me share some statistics on my 99 blogs

The majority, 1/5, of the blogs were on St. Berchmans College, my alma mater and my second home. It was never just a job; it was a pleasure. Being with endearing students and faculty who were like an extended family made every day a joy. My thoughts linger on those days.

Apart from college, my blogs covered areas of personal interest such as marketing, entrepreneurship, contemporary issues, family, cricket, movies, and so on.

The flagship of my musings is SB College, Christ King campus. It not only reflects my personal journey but also recreates the history of SB in its initial phase. What enabled me was the college’s history up to 2007, meticulously documented by Prof. K.J. George, Kattampally, HOD of Chemistry and Vice Principal, and Prof. A.J. Francis, HOD of English, with whom I joined as Vice Principal. This factual narration, based on college records and additional information and documents collected from a couple of families, made me write the blog. This blog shares with the public the historical document on SBC created by these esteemed professors.

One blog that surpassed all my expectations, garnering a viewership of over 21,000 and still attracting sporadic visitors, is Meriiboy gives birth to Merceley and Camerry. The blog SBC: Christ the King Campus had 3K+ visitors. Divine power, which described my grand daughter who struggled with ailment on birth was co authored by my daughter. Next in the ranking was the bond between Warden and Ward: Mar Joseph Powathil and Dr Scaria Zacharia. The fifth narrated my childhood days in Changanacherry market, where I was born. This ranking reflects the areas of keen interest to the public.

Two of my blogs were published online: Nammal Jangal (translated to Malayalam) in Manorama Online and Charles Ponzi, a revised version in The Week Online.

The overall statistics on my blogs may seem impressive, with over 68,000 views. However, a closer analysis reveals a different story. The Meriiboy blog alone received 21,457 views, which means the remaining 98 blogs accounted for approximately 47,000 views, averaging just 480 views per blog—a disappointing figure by social media standards. There were a total of 539 comments across the 99 blogs, resulting in an average of about five comments per post, which also falls short of typical social media expectations.

What truly energizes me is the quality of the comments I receive. Some are so insightful and detailed that they surpass the length of my original posts. Others humble me with their depth of understanding. I encourage my readers to explore these comments as they add an extra layer of value to the blog.

THANK YOU

Thank you so much to all the viewers, commenters, and those who personally encourage me to continue blogging, as well as those who suggest topics for me to write about. Please continue to view, comment, and support.

This is a special double issue of the blog, which is also hosted simultaneously. It is not a review of the film; rather, it explores the ecosystem of mass and social media, which are interwoven and interdependent.

  2. Congratulations.

Quite a feat reaching this century. As with everything you do, things have only gotten better with time. The topics , the research which goes into them, building upon the germ of an idea with a unique narrative….all these have constantly changed and improved. That’s a learning in itself for the rest of us.

Wishing you a few more centuries. Thanks.

Sir’s ( My Uncle) 100th blog is not just a number. It’s a reflection of a purposeful life. It’s a digital archive of thought, care, and character. It’s a gentle reminder that in an age of fleeting reels and 280-character takes, there is still space for depth, for storytelling, and for legacy.

To Sir: thank you for inspiring us, not just with your words but with your unwavering commitment to reflection, truth, and grace

” Dr Stephen Mathews has achieved the milestone of 100 blogs within a period of four and a half years. This is a remarkable feat. The speciality of his blogs is that each subject is studied well and a deeper analysis is also made. A reasonable percentage of his blogs is related to St Berchmans’ College which shows his continued love and affection to his alma mater. I congratulate him on this occasion and wish him all the best to continue in his work.”

    1. Thanks Baby Joseph

    “Hi Prof. Stephen Mathew,
Please accept my congratulations on the completion of your hundredth blog. Your blogs always command attention and admiration on account of their chaste language and diction which go deep into a close analysis of the social and historical dimensions of the subject. Your contributions to the college on different levels are unforgettable. You are always abreast of the new developments in science, business and politics. I remember speaking to a student of SB at St John’s , Bangalore , when he referred to a recent book , then ,on management which he got from you to read. The student reminded me that it was borrowed from me !Wish you all the blessings of God.”

    1. Thanks Acha for your congratulatory Note. It means a lot to me
