Prof. Sivasankaran Nair, served the Physics Department at SB College from 1952 to 1987. Assuming leadership from Prof. S.L. Thomas in 1982, he spearheaded the department’s elevation to a research center. Known for his austere and disciplined nature, few were aware of his remarkable financial discipline.
I recall noticing his arrival in a Standard car*, as there were very few cars on campus. At times he came walking. When inquired, he revealed his surprising secret: upon receiving his salary, he allocated funds into separate envelopes for household expenses, other necessities, car petrol & maintenance, and so on. Once the car envelope was depleted, he would walk to campus, demonstrating extraordinary financial restraint.
Let us pay tribute to Prof. Sivasankaran Nair, a shining example of discipline and simplicity, who brought honor to SB College and its community. His legacy continues to inspire, and his memory reminds us of the value of living with integrity and financial responsibility.
Prof. Sivasankaran Nair’s son Manoj joined our MBA program when it was introduced in 1995. Manoj is currently the Senior General Manager at Finolex. I have had the pleasure of sharing our tributes, photos, and videos honoring Prof. Nair with Manoj, keeping his father’s memory alive and celebrated.
*one of our former students added “I remember the ash color Standard Herald car with reg. Number 779, always parked under the tower. Sir was coming with black pants and a white shirt”
This illustrates the lasting impact of teachers on their students, as they are remembered in every detail.
